FAQ · For Families
What should I expect at the first meeting with a doula?
At the first meeting with a doula, you talk about your pregnancy, your hopes for birth, how the doula works, fees, and availability. It is a two-way conversation: you are deciding if the doula is right for you, and the doula is deciding if they can serve you well.
What to talk about
Expect to cover your due date, your hopes and concerns, the doula's approach to labor support, how they handle plan changes, and what their package includes.
Questions to bring
Bring your questions: experience, backup coverage, comfort measures, how they support partners, communication during labor, fees, and payment options. No question is too basic.
It is a two-way fit
The meeting is also the doula's chance to assess whether they can meet your needs. A good doula will be honest about fit and availability rather than taking every client.
Virtual by phone or Zoom
The first meeting is available by phone call or Zoom call, so you can have the conversation from the comfort of your own home, wherever you are.
After the meeting
Take time to reflect on how the conversation felt. If it feels right, you will usually sign an agreement, pay a deposit if required, and schedule your prenatal visits.
