FAQ · For Families
What happens at a prenatal visit?
At a prenatal visit, your doula gets to know you and your family, learns your preferences, and helps you plan for birth. Prenatal visits are where you build the relationship and prepare questions and options for your care team. They are not medical appointments.
Getting to know each other
Prenatal visits are a chance for your doula to learn your story, your hopes, and your concerns. The doula also shares how support will work, so expectations are clear on both sides.
Birth planning
You will talk through your preferences for labor and birth: comfort measures, movement, who you want in the room, and how you want to communicate with your care team.
Preparing for provider visits
Your doula helps you prepare questions for your doctor or midwife and understand the options they may present. This is advocacy and education, not medical advice.
How many visits
The number of prenatal visits varies by doula and package, often one to three before the due date. Ask what is included when you book so you know what to expect.
