FAQ · Training
What will I learn in doula training?
In Black Pearl doula training you will learn prenatal, birth, and postpartum support skills; advocacy and healthcare navigation; cultural competency; trauma-informed approaches; professional boundaries; and business operations. The curriculum prepares you for both the support role and the business of doula work.
Support skills across the childbearing year
Training covers prenatal preparation, labor support, comfort measures, immediate postpartum care, and the weeks after birth. You practice the hands-on skills doulas use with families.
Advocacy and navigation
You learn to help clients prepare questions, support informed communication with care teams, and understand their options. Advocacy training keeps the doula firmly in the non-clinical support role.
Cultural competency and trauma-informed care
Black Pearl's program includes cultural competency, anti-bias education, and trauma-informed approaches. These prepare you to serve Black families and communities with respect, safety, and compassion.
Professional boundaries and business fundamentals
Trainees learn professional boundaries, client relationships, and business operations, including how doulas structure services and consultations. Business education is built into certification at Black Pearl.
