FAQ · Certification
What does doula certification include?
Black Pearl doula certification includes training in birth and postpartum support, advocacy, healthcare navigation, cultural competency, trauma-informed care, professional boundaries, and business fundamentals. The program prepares doulas for both the support role and the business of doula work.
Birth and postpartum support skills
The curriculum covers prenatal preparation, labor support, comfort measures, immediate postpartum care, and the weeks after birth. Trainees learn how to support families through the full arc of the childbearing year.
Advocacy and navigation
Certification includes training in advocacy and healthcare-system navigation: helping clients prepare questions, supporting informed communication, and understanding options without crossing into clinical care.
Cultural competency and trauma-informed care
Black Pearl's program includes cultural competency, anti-bias education, and trauma-informed approaches. These prepare doulas to serve Black families and communities with respect, safety, and compassion.
Professional boundaries and business fundamentals
Trainees learn professional boundaries, client relationships, and business operations. Certification at Black Pearl is education and training; it is not a healthcare license and does not guarantee recognition by any particular organization.
